Best Natural Remedies For Psoriasis

By Mary Spencer

Technically, there is no psoriasis cure, but luckily for the millions of people that suffer from psoriasis there are natural remedies that are very effective in treating the symptoms. While many of these treatments involve topical natural substances placed on the affected area, most people don't remember that eating natural foods is just as important. To effectively treat psoriasis outbreaks, it is essential to treat the condition from the inside and outside. Here are the main treatment mediums you should be following.

Start with a good diet. Psoriasis outbreaks occur when the body's immune system attacks normal skin cells. And since the outbreaks begin internally, it is important to treat the internal condition. It is just as important to heal your immune system as it is to treat the skin. A good diet is one of the natural remedies for psoriasis that has been favored by many people to treat psoriasis. Eat a variety of vegetables and fruits, preferably fresh and not from a can. Whole grain foods should also be included in your diet. Stay away from fatty meats, and try to eat more lean cuts and fish. Don't forget to stay away from foods that are associated with psoriasis outbreaks, especially tomatoes.

Many people believe that supplements aid in the psoriasis healing process, although this hasn't been scientifically proven. So, try to combine some supplements with a healthy diet, especially vitamin D, fish oil, evening primrose oil, mild thistle and turmeric. Be sure to follow the recommended dosage or as directed by your physician. I also suggest buying a reputable brand of supplements, as many supplement manufacturers are now known to add fillers to the supplements, which in some cases has caused allergic reactions in some people.

Loosening psoriasis scales so they can be easily removed is best accomplished by soaking. Of course, an added benefit of soaking is that it hydrates your skin. Soaking is known to not only clean the psoriasis patches of skin, but also relieve itching. Doctors commonly recommend soaking the skin for at least 20 minutes every day. Be careful to only use warm water; don't use hot water. Many people with psoriasis add a combination of natural substances to the bath water to help the healing process. Below is a list of the most common ingredients, but don't feel like you have to include them all, since few people do. Most people combine a couple (or more) of the ingredients in their water, such as olive oil, apple cider vinegar, Epsom salt, Dead Sea salt, baking soda, mineral oil, vegetable oil, milk, and oats.

At all times, keep the psoriasis-affected area moisturized. The moisture helps the skin from plaque development. Shea and cocoa butter are very popular natural moisturizers, because moisture is retained better due to the thickness of the butter. However, there are other great natural ingredients as well, such as olive oil, vegetable oil, sunflower oil, and most other cooking oils. Coconut oil receives a lot of praise as a moisturizer because it is a hydration balancing agent to retain moisture. It's important to stay out of dry climates, so use a humidifier if you need.

We have discussed some of the common natural remedies for psoriasis, but there are many more to try if you still don't find relief. You might consider using a commercial product made entirely with natural ingredients or downloading other recipes of natural remedies to treat the psoriasis.
